Miriam Fletcher
Psychotherapeutic Counsellor
Edinburgh & East Lothian
I offer therapy for young people between the ages of 11 to 25 years old. I provide a warm and accepting space and bring enthusiasm to my practice. Each client is an individual and my practice draws on different methods to create a unique approach that is appropriate for the young person. Therapy sessions can be in person, online, and outdoors. I hold a Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling, Children & Young People from Northern Guild - a leading UK Counselling and Psychotherapy training institute. As a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), I adhere to their ethical codes. I also have a degree in Environmental Science and Ecology. Previously I worked in Horticultural Therapy, also for the Education Department of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh and with High School students who have Additional Support Needs. Beyond my private practice, I have experience counselling for a community mental health provider, as well as counselling at an independent day and boarding school.
How Counselling Can Help

OCD and intrusive thoughts
-
Low self-esteem
-
Grief
-
Changes of stage in life
-
Family issues
“The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.” - Carl Rogers
What I Offer
In Person: Edinburgh
Sessions are run from a room in The Life Academy Wellbeing Centre, a welcoming centre developed with therapy in mind, located in Bruntsfield.
In Person: East Lothian
Sessions are run from the Garden Room at The Ridge in Dunbar. This is a lovely bright space, looking onto the gardens.
Online
Being online may be helpful for those who live more remotely or who would feel more comfortable being based in their own home. I can incorporate a range of activities into sessions from talking to virtual activities including, games, drawing and sandtray work.
Outdoor
This therapy is based in East Lothian, this more relaxed style of counselling can be a refreshing and uplifting experience. Nature provides a calm space; walking and creative mediums can be used to help explore feelings and emotions. Care is taken to ensure that no trace is left. This therapy is influenced by my experience of working for the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh's Education Department. All walks are carefully considered and risk assessed, I also hold an outdoor First Aid qualification recognised by the Institute for Outdoor Learning.
